Predawn magnitude-3.5 quake hits Negros Oriental

A predawn magnitude-3.5 quake struck Negros Oriental province Monday, nearly a month after a magnitude-6.9 quake devastated the area.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was tectonic in origin and was recorded at 3:32 a.m.

In its bulletin, it said the quake's epicenter was traced to 26 km northwest of La Libertad town.

La Libertad was among the areas that suffered great damage in the Feb. 6 quake. Over 50 people were killed during the deadly quake, with more than 60 others reported as missing.

However, Phivolcs did not immediately cite specific areas where the predawn quake was felt.

No damage or aftershock was expected from Monday's quake, Phivolcs said. — RSJ, GMA News
