Phivolcs: At least 2 predawn quakes hit Negros Oriental
At least two predawn quakes jolted Negros Oriental province before dawn Thursday, more than a month after a magnitude-6.9 quake hit the Negros area. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first quake measured magnitude 4.3 and was recorded at 12:54 a.m. In its bulletin, it said the quake's epicenter was traced to 15 km northwest of Jimalalud town in Negros Oriental. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at:
Intensity IV (moderately strong): Jimalalud, Negros Oriental Intensity II (slightly felt): Tayasan, Negros Oriental
A second quake was recorded at 2:41 a.m., and was measured at magnitude 3.7. Phivolcs said the epicenter was 4 km southwest of Jimalalud, Negros Oriental. But Phivolcs did not immediately cite specific areas where the quake was felt. No damage or aftershock was expected from both quakes, Phivolcs added. Last Feb. 6, a magnitude-6.9 quake struck Negros, killing more than 50 people. — LBG, GMA News More Videos
