Aquino declares April 21 special nonworking day in Calamba

April 21, a Saturday, will be a special nonworking day in Calamba City in Laguna province as it marks its 11th cityhood anniversary.

 

Malacañang said President Benigno Aquino III signed Proclamation 357 to let residents celebrate the occasion "with appropriate ceremonies."

 

In a Palace news release, the proclamation signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. said the declaration aims "to give the people of the city the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies." 

 

Calamba is presently the second component city of Laguna after San Pablo.

 

With the passage of Republic Act No. 9024 on April 7, 2001 and the approval of the residents in a plebiscite on April 21, 2001, Calamba was turned into a component city from a municipality of Laguna. — RSJ, GMA News
