NDRRMC: 44 hurt in road accidents in Romblon, La Union, Benguet


At least 44 people were injured, three of them seriously, in road accidents in Romblon, La Union, and Benguet, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.   In Romblon, an overloaded passenger jeep fell off a cliff at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The initial investigation showed that the jeep driven by Cresencio Malavega, 58, was carrying 25 passengers including the conductor when it fell 20 to 30 feet while negotiating a steep portion of the road. The NDRRMC said three of the passengers were seriously hurt:

  • Milagros Muyo, 68
  • Kathleen dela Cruz, 21
  The passengers were taken to the Romblon District Hospital for treatment.   Meanwhile, in La Union, a Baguio Bus Line (AVW-176) tipped on its side while negotiating a sharp curve along Naguilian Road in Sitio Gabor in Old Poblacion village in Burgos town in La Union at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.   Twelve people were injured, including:

Benguet accident   Meanwhile, seven people were injured after an Isuzu jeep bound for Dagupan, Pangasinan went out of control after its brakes failed along Badiwan, Poblacion in Tuba, Benguet at 6:10 p.m. Friday.   Driver Danilo Cerna was forced to stop the jeep by hitting the gate of a nearby commercial building. Seven of the 23 passengers were injured:
