PNP secures Cavite capitol vs 'people power'
Following the lightning suspension of Cavite Gov. Ireneo "Ayong" Maliksi Tuesday afternoon, police were brought in to guard the provincial capitol from any "people power" demonstration by Maliksi's supporters. As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, QTV television reported that members of the Philippine National Police regional force has been keeping the provincial capitol under tight security. When the suspension â which stemmed from Maliksi's supposedly questionable purchase of rice â was first served in 2005, the governor's supporters quickly barricaded the capitol and prevented Vice Governor Jonvic Remulla from taking over. The Department of the Interior and Local Government served Tuesday afternoon the six-month suspension on Maliksi, who questioned the move. Maliksi told dzBB radio Tuesday evening he will consult with his lawyers on how to respond to the move.
