28 hurt as jeep crashes in Rizal

Twenty-eight people were reported hurt after a passenger jeep they were riding crashed in Taytay town in Rizal province early Tuesday.

The jeep was traveling along Osias Avenue Extension in San Isidro village in Taytay when it went out of control and crashed, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

Some of the passengers were thrown out of the jeep, even as rescue teams rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, the report said.

An initial investigation showed the jeep (DWE-816) was heading for Mandaluyong City when driver Rolando Guerrero lost control of it.

Guerrero allegedly swerved to avoid hitting other vehicles, causing the jeep to crash.

It was one of the latest accidents involving public utility vehicles in the last two weeks.

Last week, eight were hurt after a bus crashed at a flyover along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue, supposedly while the driver was speeding and texting.

Two were killed last Sunday after a bus figured in a three-vehicle smashup along a tunnel along EDSA.
