NDRRMC: Family forcibly evacuated due to landslide threat in Laguna

A family was forcibly evacuated from its home due to a landslide threat on a subdivision in San Pedro in Laguna, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday. In its Friday morning report, the NDRRMC said the house at Filinvest Southern Heights 2 in United Better Living village was in danger as the riprap around it showed signs of collapse. "Based on the investigation, a riprap was meant to support the added weight of the new (three-story house). However, signs of possible collapse were seen in the area due to the prominent bulges and cracks on the walls," it said. Of the four families in the building, one was forcibly evacuated by the town social welfare department. The three remaining families were verbally instructed to vacate the area, the NDRRMC added. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said a fisherman died of a heart attack while fishing in Palakpakin Lake in San Pablo City in Laguna at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The NDRRMC said the body of Eduardo Medrana, 51, was recovered at 4:10 p.m. Thursday. — LBG, GMA News
