Naga folk start preparing city hall for Robredo remains' return Sunday

Residents of Naga City on Friday started preparing City Hall in time for the return there of the remains of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Workers removed the flower arrangements for the late secretary at the Archbishop's Palace and brought them to City Hall, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

City vice mayor Gabriel Bordado Jr. was quoted in the report as saying Robredo's wake will be held at the People's Hall to accommodate as many people as possible.

The remains of Robredo were initially brought to the Archbishop's Palace late Tuesday, before they were brought out and flown to Manila early Friday.

From Friday to Sunday morning, Robredo's remains are to lie in state at Malacañan Palace. On Sunday morning, the remains will be brought back to Naga City.

Robredo served as mayor of Naga City for 19 years, where he earned praise for transforming it from a third- to a first-class city.

He died in a plane crash off Masbate last August 18, while en route to Naga City from an official function in Cebu.

The plane's pilot and co-pilot were also killed in the crash. Only Robredo's aide survived the tragedy.

Authorities have started an investigation into what caused the crash.  — ELR, GMA News
