100 houses destroyed in Cebu fire

At least 100 houses were razed as a fire hit a residential area in Mandaue City, Cebu province on Monday night.

 

No one was reported hurt in the fire but families had to spend the night under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Jasmin Baylosis of radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported.

 

The families asked for clothing and blankets as most of them fled their homes without being able to save their belongings, the report said.

 

The initial investigation showed that the fire started at about 8:50 p.m. at Umapad village in Mandaue City. The fire supposedly stemmed from a candle that was left unattended and tipped over. The house was made of light materials, the report added. The fire reached Task Force Alpha before firefighters placed it under control at 10:05 p.m.

 

Arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P1.1 million. - VVP, GMA News
