Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.2 quake hits Zamboanga del Norte; aftershocks expected


(Updated 3:25 p.m.) A magnitude-5.2 quake jolted the Zamboanga del Norte area in Mindanao Tuesday afternoon, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks.
 
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 2:25 p.m. and was tectonic in origin.
 
In an updated bulletin, Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the quake to 19 km southwest of Sergio Osmeña Sr. town in Zamboanga Del Norte.
 
The initial bulletin had measured the quake at magnitude 5.4.
 
Phivolcs' updated bulletin said the quake was felt at:
 
- Intensity III: Dumaguete City; Zamboanga City; Labason, Zamboanga del Norte
- Intensity II: Dipolog City; Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte
 
While Phivolcs said no damage is expected, aftershocks are possible.
 
For its part, the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.1.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was:
 
- 14 km north-northwest of Dumingag
- 24 km northwest of Mahayag
- 30 km northwest of Molave
