NDRRMC: 265 affected by storm surge in Mindoro due to 'Marce'

At least 265 people in Mindoro Occidental province were affected by a storm surge caused by bad weather conditions brought by Tropical Storm Marce (Gaemi), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 6 a.m. Saturday report, the NDRRMC said the incident occurred early Friday morning at Barangay Poblacion in Calintaan town. The NDRRMC said the incident affected 53 families or 265 people, and destroyed five houses and damaged 23 others. As of Saturday morning, the NDRRMC said Marce had affected 66 families or 322 people. It also said at least 33 passengers were stranded in Aparri. The 33 were aboard the motor bancas Jayson and Rosario, which were bound for Calayan in Cagayan. Still impassable are a portion of the Mompong Bridge in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro; and Tabuk-Banaue Road (Gimma Section) and Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Kalinga in northern Luzon. Tropical Storm Marce exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility Friday night, but PAGASA said it may still generate big waves in western Luzon. — LBG, GMA News
