Stricter drug tests for Bacoor tricycle drivers after UST alumna's killing
Following the brutal killing of a University of Santo Tomas alumna last week, tricycle drivers in Bacoor City in Cavite will now be subject to stricter random drug tests.
Bacoor police head Superintendent Romano Cardino said this aims to protect civilians riding the tricycles, radio dzBB reported Sunday.
Cardino was quoted in the report as saying the more stringent tests will particularly apply to tricycle drivers in the area where the killing of Cyrish Magalang occurred.
Magalang was found dead with 49 stab wounds in Bacoor in Cavite last week. She had just graduated from the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Police arrested brothers Rollin and Roel Gacita Jr. for the gruesome killing, though only Rolin admitted to the killing, while Roel insisted on his innocence.
The incident also prompted an anti-crime group to call for the reimposition of the death penalty for heinous crimes.
However, Malacañang thumbed down the idea, saying there is still no surefire way to be sure the one being sentenced to death is indeed the guilty party. –KG, GMA News
