2 children killed, 6 hurt in Negros Occidental road accident

Two children aged 6 and 8 were killed, while their mother and five others were injured after they figured in a road accident Friday while on their way to attend a fiesta in Murcia town in Negros Occidental. Murcia police officer-in-charge Inspector Celjun Nemenio said the incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. Friday at Barangay Salvacion, according to a report Saturday on Visayan Daily Star. Citing initial information reaching him, Nemenio said the victims were aboard a tricycle driven by Sandy Sarceno that collided with a dump truck heading for Barangay Alegria to haul sand and gravel. Killed on the spot were Johna Porque, 8, and her brother Jessie, 6. Injured were their mother Maria Janet; driver Sarceno, his wife Maria Jenny, and their son John Mark; Jojo Ledesma and Igmedio Medioya Jr. They were brought to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center for treatment. Johna and John Mark, were members of a drum and bugle corps and students of the Santa Cruz Elementary School in Murcia. An initial investigation showed one of the tricycle's tires burst, causing the vehicle to go out of control and veer into the path of the truck driven by Reggie Espida. Espida surrendered to local police, and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries. — LBG, GMA News
