DOH: Dengue outbreak in Agusan Sur contained


The Department of Health on Monday said the dengue outbreak in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur has been contained with the destruction of the breeding place of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, radio station DZBB reported. Doctor Eric Tayag, head of the DOH's National Epidemiology Center, said th situation was put under control after conducting search and destroy operations and fogging of mosquito-infested area. The same radio report said Tayag advised residents to keep their surroundings clean to prevent mosquitoes from breeding again. Three children died while 18 others were hospitalized in the said province due to dengue. Also on Monday, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III expressed alarm over the rise in the incident of dengue during the first month of the year, according to GMA News' Flash Report. Apart from the 18 incidents recorded in Agusan del Sur, 22 persons were hospitalized in Laguna because of dengue. Duque said that because of the incident, health officials will intensify their campaign against the deadly disease. - GMANews.TV
