BFP intensifies inspections among Bulacan vendors selling fireworks

As the purchase of fireworks to mark Christmas and the New Year starts to peak, the Bureau of Fire Protection is tightening inspections on at least three areas in Bulacan known for selling the items.

The BFP will particularly keep an eye on areas including Bocaue, Santa Maria and Angat in Bulacan, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

BFP Central Luzon director Chief Superintendent Arlel Barayuga was quoted in the report as saying they will check for compliance with the revised Fire Code.

He said this includes making sure the factories or stalls discourage smoking near the stalls to prevent a fire from breaking out.

The law also requires them to have fire extinguishers and other methods of fire suppression near their establishments.

Bulacan is popular with revelers at this time of the year due to its factories manufacturing fireworks.

Many Filipinos still buy fireworks despite the Department of Health's repeated appeals not to use fireworks to welcome the New Year. —KG, GMA News
