Police recover kidnapped Taiwanese child in Laguna


Authorities have recoverd an 11-year old Taiwanese national kidnapped last week in Laguna province, two days after being seized by unidentified armed men.
 
According to the National Police's Anti-Kidnapping Group, the victim was a Grade 6 female student. The vicitm was abducted around 4:30 p.m. on January 9, Wednesday inside Ceris Village in Canlubang. Authorities said the suspects had demanded P25 million from the family of the victim in exchange of the student's release. The demand was later reduced to P10 million.  A police report said that after a series of negotiations, the victim was dropped off in an undisclosed place in San Pablo City, Laguna around 10 a.m., January 11, without any ransom paid to the suspects. The victim was subjected to post-traumatic stress debriefing.
 
Senior Superintendent Renato Gumban, PNP-AKG head, said the abductors brought the victim to Cavite.
 
“Nainterview namin yung nag-arrange ng safehouse at itinuro kung sino sino pumupunta dun. Subject na sila ng (follow up operations) namin,” he said.
 
He said the same kidnapping group was involved in another abduction case in Bulacan earlier this month.
 
“Isang grupo na bago lang, mga baguhan. May involvement na din sila sa ibang lugar gaya sa Cebu tapos last November may isa sa Bulacan. Ito yung December taga-Bulacan. Mga suspect the same lang na grupo,” he said. Bulacan kidnapping
 
In a press statement, PNP-AKG said Gurtej Singh was rescued in a joint operation last January 4, 14 days after he and his wife Kulwinder Kaur was kidnapped by five armed men in Sto. Cristo, Pulilan, Bulacan.
 
The couple were having business transactions with their clients around 11 am on December 24 when they were abducted. The kidnappers asked for P20 million for their release. The amount was later reduced to P10 million.
 
The report said Kaur was released on December 29 after her family paid the kidnappers P227,000.
 
The abductors demanded another P3 million for Singh's release. To force his family to pay the amount, the kidnappers cut Singh's right small finger and sent it to Kaur.
 
It was at this point that the victim's family sought the help of PNP-AKG.
 
Four of the kidnappers were killed during the rescue operation. Two of them were identified as Wenie Oilaivar, 27 and a certain Ariel, 27, both residents of Sto. Cristo, Pulilan, Bulacan.
 
Police were able to arrest one of the kidnappers identified as Rachelle Dosdos, 26, of Brgy. Balasing, Sta Maria, Bulacan. Police are conducting follow up operations for the arrest of the kidnappers.
 
Recovered in the possession of the suspects were a caliber. 38, two caliber .45, live ammunitions and spent shells, kitchen knife, hand grenade, one Nokia N70 phone, two Nokia 1200 phone, nylon rope and a record book. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
