NDRRMC: Flash floods prompt evacuation in Surigao Norte
Several families were displaced while a major road was made impassable in Surigao del Norte due to flash floods and landslides brought by the tail-end of a cold front, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday. The NDRRMC, in its 7 a.m. report, said a flash flood hit Barangays Del Rosario and Cawilan in Tubod town in Surigao del Norte at 8 a.m. Tuesday. At least 10 families or 47 people were evacuated and one house was damaged in Barangay del Rosario, while 35 families or 167 people were evacuated in Cawilan, the NDRRMC said. "Evacuation is still ongoing," it added. It added Tubod Mayor Cristina Arcillas sought assistance in evacuating the families in the isolated area due to the sudden rise of the Magpayang River. On the other hand, the NDRRMC said Butuan City's City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council noted the water level in Agusan River was 2.3 meters above sea level. The NDRRMC also said Barangay Hinayhayan and Sitio Tagmalinao in Cagwait in Surigao del Norte are partly flooded. It added the national highway in Barangay Hinayhayan was impassable due to a landslide. — LBG, GMA News
