Fire razes 200 houses in residential area in Cainta, Rizal

Hundreds of families lost their homes after a fire of undetermined origin razed a residential area in Cainta town in Rizal province late Thursday.

 

The fire at the Westbank Floodway in Cainta reached at least Task Force Alpha and razed up to 200 houses, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

 

An updated report by dzBB's Roland Bola said the fire started at 4:35 p.m. at Alley 32.

 

Firefighters had a hard time getting to the area because of narrow streets and they had to leave the area to replenish their water tanks, the report said.  

A post on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's Twitter account said the fire was placed under control as of 7:38 p.m.

 

However, firefighters remained on guard in the area to make sure the fire does not rekindle, the dzBB report said.

 

The report quoted Rizal provincial fire marshal Superintendent Mauricio Ramos as saying the fire spread quickly partially because of the strong winds.  — ELR, GMA News
