Security preparations finalized for Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo
Police in Western Visayas have finalized security preparations for this year's celebration of Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo province this weekend. Western Visayas police head Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that while there is no security threat at this time, they continue to be vigilant. Cruz also said the Police Regional Office 6 has sent added security personnel to Iloilo for the festival, radio dzBB's Iloilo affiliate reported Thursday. He was quoted in the report as saying the police will enforce a curfew for minors and a liquor ban. The report also said container vans are being set up as temporary detention cells for possible troublemakers. On the other hand, medical teams will be on standby during the weekend to give attention to revelers who may get hurt. Meanwhile, a separate report by dzBB's Tuesday Niu said police are prepared to secure the Dinagyang from Friday to Sunday. The report quoted Cruz as saying 4,000 police and military personnel and volunteer groups will coordinate to secure people taking part in the festivities. But the report said the police also asked the participants to be careful against street criminals such as snatchers. — LBG, GMA News
