NDRRMC: 9,465 people affected by Zamboanga del Norte flood


Nearly 10,000 people were affected by floods that hit parts of Zamboanga del Norte in Mindanao on Thursday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday. In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said continuous rain caused rivers along the Polanco National Highway's Guilles section to overflow at 0.8 meter. The water level at Rizal town reached 0.5 meter while the river in San Jose in Dipolog City reached critical level, it added. "Barangays Sto. Niño, Basagan, Mulagas and Lugdungan from Katipunan town were also affected by the flooding which is waist deep," it said. It said the affected families in Barangay Dicayas were evacuated to the barangay hall, while the other families were brought to nearby schools and to higher ground. But as of 6 a.m. Friday, it said there was no casualty reported. The NDRRMC said the floods affected 1,855 families or 9,465 people and 422 hectares of agriculture. Affected areas were: – Dipolog City, particularly San Jose, Olingan, Biwan, Lugdungan, Punta, Dicayas, Gulayon, and Turno villages; – Polanco town, particularly: barangays Pian, Poblacion South, Labrador, Guinies, Obay, Anastacio, Villahermosa, Lingasad, ang Poblacion North; and - Katipunan town: Basagan village At least 32 people from Barangay San Antonio in Katipunan town were rescued, the NDRRMC said. — LBG, GMA News
