Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.5 quake hits Baguio
A magnitude-4.5 quake jolted Baguio City Monday afternoon, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology describing the quake as "strong." In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 3:16 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. The quake's epicenter was estimated at 13 km southeast of Baguio City. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity V in Baguio City; and Intensity II in Agoo and San Fernando in La Union. The agency defined a strong quake as generally one felt by most people indoors and outdoors, during which "[s]ome are frightened, some run outdoors. Strong shaking and rocking [may be] felt throughout building. Hanging objects swing violently. Dining utensils clatter and clink; some are broken. Small, light and unstable objects may fall or overturn. Liquids spill from filled open containers. Standing vehicles rock noticeably." No damage or aftershock was initially expected for this quake, however. — BM, GMA News
