Davao City rivers overflow; residents evacuated

Several residents in Davao City were evacuated to higher ground Saturday night as some rivers in the area overflowed, the city government said. In posts on its social networking accounts, the city government said: "Wangan River overflow (is) affecting Teacher's Village and other communities along the river in Calinan." Search and rescue teams were deployed to the area, it added. Before dawn Sunday, it said residents affected by the Wangan River overflow were evacuated to Calinan Gym. Also, the city government noted the overflow of Lipadas River is affecting Mulig and Bayabas Crossing in Toril. "Residents of said areas were advised to evacuate," it said. While the city government did not directly cite heavy rain as the cause of the overflow, PAGASA's Twitter account indicated "light to moderate rain" over parts of Davao del Sur and North Cotabato Saturday night. — LBG, GMA News
