Small plane crashes in Cebu; 6 passengers safe

(Update) A six-seater Islander crashed Wednesday morning off the shores of Plantation Bay in Mactan Island in the central Philippine province of Cebu, a spokesman from the Philippine Air Force said. Air Force spokesman Maj. Augusto dela Peña said the Islander (RP-C1047) ditched in waist-deep waters 200 meters from the shoreline of the posh resort in Cebu. Dela Peña said six passengers were on board the aircraft which was piloted by a certain Capt. Dahan. There were no reports of any casualties in the crash, he added. Officials of the Air Transportation Office (ATO) told radio station dzBB's affiliate in Cebu that they have already started "rescue operations" in the wake of the incident. Reports said the aircraft was owned by Surigao Rep. Prospero Pichay although it could not be ascertained as of posting time. - GMANews.TV
