Six of 13 inmates who escaped Negros Occidental jail recaptured — BJMP

(Updated 1:25 p.m.) Only seven of the 13 inmates who escaped from the Sagay City Jail in Negros Occidental last week remain at large, with the recapture of four more inmates on Saturday in Hacienda Albina in the city's Brgy. Rafael Barrera, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesman Gilbert Peremne said Sunday. "Yesterday [Saturday], we recaptured an additional four. Ongoing ang efforts for the remaining seven," Peremne told GMA News Online. Also, he said two of the escapees were recaptured Friday afternoon at a bus terminal in neighboring Cadiz City. In an earlier report, Peremne identified the four as:
Joemar Prayco Libester Jonard Donguinez Quirante Jimmy Ulila Vistar Jolito Subteniente
Recaptured on Friday were Rolando Patigayon Bajo and Jeck Francisco Española, at a bus terminal in Cadiz City in Negros Occidental. Bajo and Española face murder charges. Bajo was believed to be the mastermind of the jailbreak last week. "Sa ngayon, 'yung anim na na recapture are back in Sagay City Jail," Peremne said. Still at large are:
Marjon “Toto” Bandala Eric “CJ” Cordero Resty Dacaldacal Richard “Katumbal” Dacaldacal Armando “Kadjo” Dilao Gilbert “Ipong” Manija Rey Villanueva
The BJMP regional office had offered a P20,000 reward for the capture of Bajo and a P10,000 reward each for the 12 other prisoners. The jailbreak led to the sacking of the Sagay City Jail warden and two of his men. Relieved were Sagay City jail warden Chief Inspector Benny Freddie Cobarde, and Jail Officers 1 Joever Valenzuela and Francis Ballador. Investigation showed Bajo, a former criminology student, planned the escape. Bajo shot and destroyed the padlock to trigger the jailbreak. "Noong pinapapasok sila for counting, a certain Bajo ang nagpunta sa guard. Tinutukan 'yung guwardiya. Pagkatapos, binaril 'yung padlock. Tumakbo siya palabas, at sumunod ang 12," Peremne said.
According to Peremne, only Vistar was a convicted inmate, while the rest were detainees.
