Improvised bomb explodes at Pagadian mall parking lot

An improvised bomb exploded in a parking lot of a mall in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province Thursday afternoon.

 

No one was initially reported injured in the incident, which occurred at 3 p.m. at the parking area of the Gaisano mall, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported.

 

Police said their initial information showed the improvised explosive device was placed at the back of a white Toyota sedan (MNC-785).

 

The explosion damaged a nearby Isuzu Asian utility vehicle (UTX-856), the report said.

 

A separate report on Bombo Radyo quoted police Region 9 spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca as saying the bomb consisted of an 81-mm mortar and a two-way radio as a triggering device.

 

Investigators are coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to trace the ownership of the Toyota sedan.

 

They are also gathering leads on who could have left the IED in the area, along with the motive for the incident.  — ELR, GMA News
