N. Cotabato flood damage now at P60M, state of calamity declared in Mlang

MLANG, North Cotabato — Flash floods that hit the town of Mlang, North Cotabato on Saturday morning resulted in damage to property worth P60 million, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management  Office (MDRRMO) said.

At least 1,500 hectares of rice fields in 11 villages were submerged in flood, said Constantino Diazon, the town’s disaster chief.

Also damaged by flood waters were two bridges and three mini dams.

Affected by the flood waters were barangays Bagontapay, Buayan, New Antique, Pag-asa, Inas, Bialong, Lika and Dunguan.

The town's local legislative body on Wednesday placed the town of Mlang under a state of calamity, paving the way for the utilization of the calamity fund to assist more than 500 farmers affected in 11 villages.

“The LGU will use the funds for the purchase of seedlings which will be given free to the farmers,” Diazon said. —Williamor Magbanua/KG, GMA News
