P4M worth of pirated DVDs seized in Bacolod

Some 30 sacks of pirated DVDs worth at least P4 million were seized in an anti-piracy operation led by the Optical Media Board in Bacolod City this week, the regional police chief said.

Western Visayas police head Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the discs were confiscated from vendors in three malls in Bacolod, Visayan Daily Star reported.

Cruz said the Philippine National Police in the region coordinates with OMB chairman Ronnie Ricketts in going after pirated discs.

However, OMB Executive Director Cyrus Valenzuela admitted they failed to make arrests since the vendors fled before the operatives arrived at the malls.

Cruz said the sale of pirated VCDs and CDs may fetch three to six years' imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 to P1.5 million.

Following the raid, Cruz reminded the public not to patronize pirated discs, an act he said can kills the Philippine local movie and music industry.  — ELR, GMA News
