DPWH: Traffic buildup to Laguindingan Airport may last until August

People heading to the Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro City may have to bear with a traffic buildup until at least August, the Department of Public Works and Highways admitted over the weekend.

The DPWH said its unit in Region 10 is appealing for the public's "utmost patience and understanding for the temporary inconvenience."

"The traffic build-up is just temporary and the smooth traffic flow will be restored after completion of the road project by August this year, if the weather will continue to cooperate especially during concreting works," it said.

It added the DPWH Region 10 is facilitating the completion of the ongoing Alubijid section of the Opol-Laguindingan Road.

Meanwhile, the DPWH Region 10 also appealed to drivers to check their brakes before engaging into long trips, avoid counter flow, and to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations "to prevent accidents on the road that would contribute to traffic build-up."

The Laguindingan Airport opened last June 15, and is the main airport of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.

The airport, said to have state-of-the-art facilities, was personally inspected by President Benigno Aquino III before it opened. —KG, GMA News
