Runway lights at Palawan airport fixed early, night flights could resume
Good news for Palawan-bound tourists: night flights to the province may resume as early as Thursday, now that the lights at the runway of Puerto Princesa International Airport have been repaired.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines fast-tracked the repair of the lighting system to minimize the impact on tourist arrivals in Palawan, radio dzBB's Palawan affiliate James Viernes reported Thursday.
CAAP deputy director general John Andrews was quoted in the report as saying the early repair of the lighting system would address the problem of limited arrivals and departures due to canceled evening flights.
Before the early repair of the system, the airport had to cancel takeoffs and landings from 6 p.m. onwards, until July 31.
On Tuesday, dzBB reported the problem with the lighting system could affect up to six evening landings and takeoffs a day.
On Monday, several passengers were stranded as flights could not land or take off at night due to the problem with the runway lights. —KG, GMA News
