PNP officer gunned down in Camarines Sur


A police officer was killed by unidentified gunmen in Camarines Sur before dawn Saturday, radio station DZBB reported. The victim was identified as Superintendent Vicente Mendenilla of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group based in Camp Crame, Quezon City. A DZBB reporter, quoting a report of Senior Superintendent Romeo Mapalo, Camarines Sur provincial director, said the victim was in La Purisima village, Pili, overseeing the construction of his resort. About 4:30 am, witnesses heard two gunshots and saw Mendenilla sprawled on the ground and bleeding. The victim was brought to Mother Seachon General Hospital in Naga but he was declared dead on arrival. Mendenilla sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen and thighs. Police have yet to identify the assailants and motive in the killing. - GMANews.TV
