At least nine areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 3 Sunday afternoon as Typhoon Labuyo (Utor) intensified further and continued to move toward the Isabela-Aurora area, state weather forecasters said.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said Labuyo was estimated at 130 km north of Virac, Catanduanes or 220 km southeast of Casiguran, Aurora as of 4 p.m.

PAGASA said Labuyo packed maximum winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph.

Labuyo was moving west-northwest at 19 kph and is expected to be in the vicinity of Pasil, Kalinga Monday afternoon.

PAGASA said Labuyo may bring rainfall of 10 to 25 mm per hour (heavy to intense) within its 600-km diameter.

It warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.

Also, it warned those in coastal areas under signals 2 and 3 to be alert against storm surges.

PAGASA also said Labuyo will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Southern Luzon and Western Visayas.

Fishermen warned

"Fishermen especially those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the eastern and western seaboards of Visayas due to big waves generated by Typhoon Labuyo," PAGASA said. — BM, GMA News
