3 Aurora towns isolated by Labuyo under state of calamity

Three towns in Aurora province that were isolated by Typhoon Labuyo (Utor) when it plowed through Northern Luzon Monday were placed under a state of calamity Tuesday morning.

Aurora Governor Gerardo Noveras made the declaration following a meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, radio dzBB's Ronald Leander reported.

Covered by the state of calamity are the towns of Casiguran, Dilasag and Dinalungan, the report said.

Labuyo exited the Philippine area of responsibility Monday night, after making landfall at Aurora and plowing through Northern Luzon. It left at least two people dead

In an earlier interview on dzBB, Aurora PDRRMC head Elson Egargue had said the three isolated towns were still without power and communication capabilities as of Tuesday morning.

With the state of calamity, the local government can use five percent of the calamity fund to help those affected.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council head Eduardo del Rosario was present at Tuesday's meeting.

Following the meeting, disaster management officials were to conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas. —KG, GMA News
