9 mountaineers missing at Mount Tarak in Bataan found

At least nine mountaineers who were missing since Saturday while trying to climb a mountain in Bataan province were found on Tuesday, police said.

Police in Mariveles town said the nine, who were trying to climb Mount Tarak, were found by police and volunteer teams, radio dzBB reported Tuesday afternoon.

The report quoted police as saying the nine appeared to be okay. The police did not immediately name the nine but said two of them were female.

Initial investigation showed the nine tried to climb the mountain last Saturday.

Earlier, police and the local government unit organized search teams for the nine mountaineers, who an earlier dzBB report said are from Makati City.

One of the mountaineers reportedly sent a text message Monday night indicating they were shivering from the cold, dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

Bataan was one of the provinces placed under Storm Signal No. 1 when Typhoon Labuyo (Utor) lashed Luzon.

Labuyo exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility Monday night but state weather forecasters warned of rain from the southwest monsoon over parts of Luzon. —KG, GMA News
