Laguna city under state of calamity due to monsoon rain
A city in Laguna province was placed under a state of calamity Monday due to heavy rain and floods brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Sta. Rosa City Mayor Arlene Arcillas announced a state of calamity after 15 of the city's 18 villages were affected by floods.
"Mayor Arlene Arcillas announced a State of Calamity in Santa Rosa, Laguna with 15 of 18 barangays affected by severe floods," the city said on its Twitter account.
It added Arcillas sought assistance from the Philippine Army and private developers and contractors for trucks.
Rescue and evacuation operations started Sunday night and were still ongoing Monday morning.
"Water current is very strong," it said.
A report on dzBB radio Monday noon said Laguna and Cavite were among the most affected areas in the wake of heavy rain brought by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring. — RSJ, GMA News
