5 more MNLF killed in Zamboanga clashes – AFP spokesman

At least five more followers of Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari were killed in Zamboanga City on the 13th day of clashes there, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said.

"Meron tayong additional five enemy killed, bringing to 102 the total enemy killed (There were five more of the enemy killed. This brings to 102 the number of enemies killed)," AFP public affairs head Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said in an interview on government-run dzRB radio.

Zagala also advised residents in areas where remnants of Misuari's followers are believed to be staying to stay indoors as close-quarter operations are ongoing.

"Meron tayong additional five enemy killed, bringing to 102 the total enemy killed (There were five more of the enemy killed. This brings to 102 the number of enemies killed)," Zagala said in an interview on government-run dzRB radio.

He said the AFP remains committed to "press on the fight" and finish the crisis "at the soonest possible time."

Misuari followers had engaged government forces in a standoff since September 9 by taking civilian hostages.

But the government in past days had since retaken most of the MNLF-controlled areas.

"Asahan ninyo tatapusin natin ito at the soonest possible time (We will try to finish this soonest)," Zagala said.  — ELR, GMA News
