2 killed, 3 hurt in suspected NPA attack in Misamis Oriental
At least two people were reported killed while three were injured after suspected communist New People's Army rebels attacked an outpost in Misamis Oriental early Sunday.
Killed in the attack in Sitio Lantad in Kibanban village in Balingasag town were a trooper and a militiaman, state-run Philippines News Agency reported.
Pursuit operations by troopers of the Army's 58th Infantry Battalion are now ongoing against the attackers, according to the report.
The report said 4th Infantry Division spokesman Capt. Christian Uy did not name the fatalities pending identification by their relatives.
Uy said the attack occurred at 1 a.m., when the attackers set fire to the outpost. The outpost quickly burned as it was made of light materials.
The PNA report said the NPAs had been going house to house and tying up civilians, particularly those they suspected of supporting development efforts in the area. — BM, GMA News
