Quake-hit Bohol seeks postponement of barangay polls
(Updated 2:14 p.m.) - The local government of Bohol, which was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Tuesday morning, will be seeking the postponement of the barangay elections there.
"The provincial government will pass a resolution [seeking the postponement of Barangay elections] addressed to Comelec (Commission on Elections)," Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto said at a briefing on the condition of the province on Wednesday.
He issued the statement after some local officials of Bohol sought the support of President Benigno Aquino III in seeking the postponement of the elections scheduled on October 28.
"Malapit na kasi tapos considering the things that we had to do here and the people that need full time and attention to address the challenges that they are facing right now," said Bohol Rep. Rene Relampagos during the same briefing.
Aquino, however, said "Congress has to come up with a resolution doing that."
