Bohol quake death toll up to 186, aftershocks continue
The number of fatalities from last week's magnitude-7.2 quake that devastated Central Visayas continued to go up, reaching 186 as of Monday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also said at least 2,193 aftershocks from the quake had been recorded, of which 46 had been felt.
Of the 186 fatalities, the NDRRMC identified the latest as Felipe Vigonte, a resident of Antequera in Bohol.
At least 173 of the 186 fatalities were from Bohol while 12 were from Cebu and one was from Siquijor, it added.
The NDRRMC also said at least 583 were injured, including 489 in Bohol, 89 in Cebu, three in Siquijor, and one each in Iloilo and Negros Oriental.
At least 11 remain missing, all from Bohol.
The NDRRMC said the quake had affected 605,350 families or 3,003,001 people in 1,339 villages in 52 towns and six cities in six provinces.
Of these, 22,113 families or 109,712 people are staying in 96 evacuation centers.
Damage at P867.2M
As of Monday morning, the NDRRMC said the quake destroyed 10,020 houses and damaged 35,621 others in Bohol, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Iloilo, Siquijor and Guimaras.
Damage was estimated at P867.24 million in terms of roads, bridges, flood control, and school and public buildings, including P763.48 million in Bohol alone. —KG, GMA News
