LTFRB suspends 50 Alps bus units following deadly Batangas accident
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Thursday suspended 50 units of a bus firm involved in a fatal road accident in Batangas province last Oct. 14.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the suspension of the 50 bus units of Alps The Bus Inc. will be in effect for 30 days, radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion reported.
Ginez said the buses will undergo safety inspection while the bus drivers will be required to take road safety seminars.
Last Oct. 14, an "Alps" bus figured in a three-vehicle predawn road accident in Batangas province that killed a motorcycle rider.
The "Alps" bus involved in the accident at Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Rafael had the plate number TYZ-664.
An initial investigation showed the bus was overtaking another vehicle when it encroached into the lane of the jeep driven by one Oliver del Mundo and hit it.
A motorcycle rider tailing the jeep was also hit and was killed. The driver and conductor of the "Alps" bus reportedly escaped after the accident. — ELR, GMA News
