Antique province still without power; over 50k people affected
The province of Antique is still experiencing power outages after Super Typhoon Yolanda devastated parts of the Visayas last week.
"Wala kaming electricity sa entire province," Rhodora Cadiao, acting governor of Antique, said in a phone-patch interview on GMA News TV's News To Go on Monday.
"At saka ang communication signal namin, sa Central and Northern antique lang," she added.
She noted that the municipalities of Bugasong, Laua-an, Barbaza, Tibiao, Culasi, Sebaste, Pandan, and Caluya were badly hit by Yolanda, the world's strongest typhoon that made landfall, which ravaged central Philippines on Friday and is believed to have claimed thousands of lives.
Cadiao said at least 10 people died, while 26 were injured and 10 are still missing in her province.
The typhoon affected 12,136 families or 54,279 people in 337 barangays in Antique province, she added.
Of these, 22,836 people are staying in evacuation centers, Cadiao said.
She added that agriculture damage is pegged at P62,052,945, and P736,500 for livestock.
Meanwhile, damages to government facilities, including some municipal halls, barangay halls, and a gymnasium, is pegged at P50 million, she said.
"Sa roads and bridges, mabuti nalang wala kaming nasirang bridges, P10 million lang," she added. — with Amanda Fernandez/RSJ, GMA News
