LTFRB to issue special permits for more Manila-Tacloban ro-ro buses

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will grant special permits to bus operators whose units will ply routes between Metro Manila and Tacloban City.

The move is meant to allow bus companies to field more buses for the Manila-Tacloban City route.

LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the permits particularly apply to roll-on roll-off (Ro-Ro) buses, radio dzBB reported Monday evening.

Ginez was quoted in the report as saying the permits will last until the situation in Tacloban City and nearby areas devastated by Yolanda will normalize.

He said many people want to get to Tacloban City to check on their loved ones there.

Tacloban was one of the areas hardest hit by Yolanda, which made landfall six times in the Philippines last Nov. 9 before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility last Saturday.

Earlier Monday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a memorandum to waive fees and charges for flights that will transport relief goods, medical and relief operations teams, security personnel, and recovery equipment, reports said. — JDS, GMA News
