Target food packs

According to deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, some 1.1 million food packs will be needed every week to make sure survivors have enough food.

She said repacking centers will need to produce 140,000 food packs a day for 275,000 in Leyte and Eastern Samar.

Out of 40 municipalities of Leyte, 30 towns have so far been reached by relief goods, while in Eastern Samar, only eight out of the 24 municipalities have been reached, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas said in a separate press briefing on Friday.

He explained that the prepositioned food brigades stationed in the hard-hit areas were also washed out by the super typhoon.

He said, though, that more help is coming.

“Kung sa simula ay basu-baso lang ang naparating natin, sa sunod na araw ay nagiging tabu-tabo, sunod na araw ay balde-balde, timba-timba, hanggang parang hose na ‘yan na maaasahan ng mga kababayan natin,” Roxas said. — JDS, GMA News
