Report: 54 hurt in bus mishap in Southern Leyte

At least 54 people were reported injured after a bus they were riding crashed into a tree in Southern Leyte province over the weekend.

Police are now preparing criminal charges against the driver, according to a report on Bombo Radyo on Sunday.

The report said the accident involving a "Clemente" bus driven by one Christian Abarca occurred at Brgy. Son-ok in Pintuyan town.

Nine of the passengers suffered serious injuries, the report said.

Abarca surrendered to authorities immediately after the accident. He faces possible charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries.

It was the latest bus accident in past few days.

Last Monday, a Don Mariano Transit Corp. bus flew off the Skyway and crashed on the service road below, killing 18.

The Skyway accident led to the suspension of the Don Mariano fleet. — BM, GMA News
