Rain floods 33 villages in Capiz, families evacuated

Several families were evacuated from their homes in Capiz province Monday after hours of rain there, state-run Philippine Information Agency reported Monday evening.

The PIA quoted the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as saying that as of 3 p.m., 33 villages had been flooded: 12 in Sigma, nine in Mambusao, eight in Panitan, two in Cuartero and one each in Panay and Dumalag.

It added that at least nine families or 40 persons were evacuated to the Poblacion Ilaya, Cuartero barangay hall.

Earlier, local officials warned residents in Cuartero town and other low-lying areas of possible flooding due to an increase in the water level in the river in Tapaz town.

The PIA quoted Tapaz information officer Margie Gimeno as saying moderate to heavy rain fell in the area. — BM, GMA News
