Sinulog Mass to be held at quake-damaged church in Cebu

The Feast of the Black Nazarene may have ended, but Filipino Catholics continue to show their love for Jesus Christ, this time with the Sinulog Festival in Cebu.

On Friday afternoon, Catholic Filipinos are to honor the Santo Niño (Christ Child) by attending a Mass at the Basilica de Santo Niño, radio dzBB's Jasmin Vailoces reported.

Friday afternoon's Mass is part of the Sinulog Festival, a traditional festival held in honor of the Santo Niño.

Last October 15, the belfry of the basilica was damaged by the magnitude-7.2 quake that devastated Central Visayas.

Other activities for Friday include a Sinulog trade fair and a launching parade, as well as the finals of the Sinulog choral competition.

The Sinulog festivities started early Thursday with a "Walk with Jesus," and will be highlighted by the Sinulog Grand Parade and a Mass by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma on Jan. 19. — LBG, GMA News
