16-year-old student killed in 4-vehicle smashup in Laguna
A 16-year-old student was killed in a four-vehicle smashup in Calamba City in Laguna province early Tuesday, city police said.
In an interview on dzBB radio, Calamba police head Superintendent Marvin Sarosaid the collision occurred in Barangay Turbina, near the national highway. The crash involved a 10-wheeler truck, a jeepney, a shuttle bus and a parked tricycle.
The student, identified as Abegail San Pedro, was aboard the jeepney when it was hit by the truck. She was thrown from the jeepney by the force of the collision and then run over by the truck.
"Sana po mapatawad ako ng nanay ng bata. 'Yun lang po hinihingi ko. Sana po makipag-areglo na lang sa akin kasi may pamilya rin ako," said the truck's driver, identified as Redulme Mosuela.
Four other people were injured in the crash and were brought to the hospital, said the report.
The truck driver is facing the charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property, said the report. — BM, GMA News
