20 hurt in bus accident in Zamboanga Sibugay

At least 20 people were injured after a chartered bus they were riding figured in an accident on a highway in Zamboanga Sibugay province Saturday noon.

 

The chartered bus fell on its side after a near collision with another vehicle on the Zamboanga-Pagadian Highway, a report on MindaNews quoted police as saying. The accident happened in Barangay Monching, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, the report said.

Police Region 9 spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca was quoted in the report as saying the victims were members of an athletic delegation from Basilan to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association (ARMAA) meet.

 

State-run Philippines News Agency added the victims were heading home aboard a "Rural Transit" bus after four days of competition. PNA cited reports indicating the victims suffered bruises and contusions.

 

Huesca said the victims were brought to the Pathfinder Hospital in Kabasalan town. — JDS, GMA News
