More than 100 homes lost in a fire in San Pedro, Laguna
More than 100 houses were lost in a fire in San Pedro City in Laguna that is believed to have been sparked by a family argument.
According to a report on "24 Oras", the fire started past 10 a.m. on Sunday and razed most of the houses in Sitio Maligaya Tres in Barangay San Vicente. The fire also spread to Sitio Maligaya Dos, the report said.
"Ang sabi ng kapitbahay ay nag-away daw yung mag-ina. Then, kumuha ng gulong, sinindihan yung gulong sa loob ng bahay," barangay councilor Don Solidum said. He said the suspect is now in the custody of barangay officials.
"Nakita namin yung apoy po, nariyan na sa likuran namin, para nang fountain. Dinali-dali ko po palabas ng bahay," said Fortunata Campit, who said she had to climb up a barbed wire fence to get to safety.
Barangay Captain Kitten Campos said the Department of Social Welfare and Development have counted 147 families who lost their homes in the fire.
"Baka mga 300 families or more pa [ang apektado]," she said.
Those who lost their homes will stay at the barangay's covered courts for now. — JDS, GMA News
