Kalinga mayor shot by irate pet owner

A municipal mayor was shot Saturday evening after he ran over a dog with his vehicle, the Kalinga Police said.

Mayor James Edduba of Pasil, Kalinga was shot by a suspect at Sitio Pinagan, Brgy. Lucog, Tabuk, City, authorities said. Edduba has since been rushed to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, the report added.

The cause? According to Kalinga police, it might be an angry pet owner miffed by Edduba, after the mayor hit said dog.

“Initial investigation by Kalinga police reveals that the Mayor and company were on board a Ford Pick Up Truck going towards Tabuk City when they accidentally hit a dog at the side of the road [which then] prompted the suspect to shoot the victim,” PSSupt. Victor Wanchakan, Provincial Director of Kalinga Police Provincial Office said.

Edduba was rushed to the Tabuk Provincial Hospital and was later transferred to St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao, Cagayan for medical treatment, police said.

Police are currently tracking the suspect involved in the shooting.
