Alleged NPA rebel wants to be Cebu town councilor

An alleged member of the New People's Army is gunning for a councilor's post in Argao, Cebu. But unlike big-time politicians who file their certificates of candidacies escorted by brass bands, the would-be candidate, Jigger Geverola, was escorted by two truckloads of soldiers, policemen and jail security personnel. Geverola is currently a political prisoner jailed inside Camp Lapu-Lapu of Armed Forces Central Command in Cebu City facing arson and rebellion charges after being arrested in 2004. Aside from this, he is also said to be the secretary of the NPA unit in Cebu's mid-north area. Geverola is running as an independent in the town of Argao which is located about 70 kilometers south of Cebu City. It has about 40,000 voters. Geverola said he would bring the voice of the oppressed and the poor in his town. - GMANews.TV
